Marijuana Laws & Legislation for Rishikesh

In India, marijuana is illegal for recreational use, but medical cannabis has seen significant developments in recent years. Cannabis for medical purposes is permitted under strict guidelines, and patients with certain conditions such as chronic pain or cancer can access cannabis-based treatments through licensed channels. However, recreational marijuana remains prohibited under Indian law, and the possession of marijuana for non-medical use can result in legal consequences, including imprisonment. Cannabis cultivation for personal use is also illegal. India has made some progress in recognizing the medical benefits of cannabis, but full marijuana legalization remains a long-term debate. Despite growing interest in medical cannabis, the country has not moved toward full legalization for recreational use.

Please note that marijuana laws are subject to change. For the most current information, consult your countries official resources or legal counsel.

Law Enforcement

Only 10% of those caught are actually convicted, and ‘baksheesh’ (bribe) will get you out of a sticky situation. Some cops may attempt to target foreigners purchasing weed.

Where to buy marijuana:

Along the bank of the ganga, towards the right, a little ahead of the guy selling chillums on the street, there’s a sadhu selling really good hash. Ask any Israeli tourist where to find him, there are a lot of Israelis visiting Rishikesh for hash.

Marijuana Prices

Rs 20 for a few grams. Seriously low quality, but there’s anything else.
