Smoking tolerance level [1= very illegal 5=virtually legal]: 4.8
Legislation: Marijuana is illegal in Costa Rica, and so is any related action.
Members of the Public Security Ministry’s Special Support Police (PAE), also known as the “Mountain Police,” search for and manually destroy marijuana fields in the mountainous regions of northern and southern Costa Rica.
Law enforcement: I spent a few days in Montezuma, a small town on the pacific coast, and had no trouble whatsoever finding some herb. The police are practically non-existent in the town and only come out at night to walk through the park once or twice looking for a blatant offender.
Where to buy marijuana in Montezuma: There are only 2 main roads through Montezuma. This being said, there are plenty of rastas on the side of the road sitting idle or selling handicrafts such as carved resin and wood pipes. Casually ask any of these people and you will surely be pointed in the right direction or be offered some on the spot.
Also check the beaches and make some conversation as there are a few campgrounds with plenty of international backpackers who will be able to help you in your search.
Montezuma marijuana prices: prices all over costa rica (for shwag) is 10 bucks a 1/2 oz. 20 for 1 oz. don’t pay any more than that.
There is also Jamacian herb available for twice the price usually, and its like low-mids (they call this stuff the creepy)
More Information: The herb here is nothing special, and similar to most central american weed. Brick packed, kinda stringy/stemy and dark green in color. Nothing for the connoisseur, but great blunt weed.
