Kelowna, BC, Canada
Smoking tolerance level [1= very illegal 5=virtually legal]: 2
Legislation: it is against the law to possess marijuana in Canada. If you have baggies, scales or other selling paraphernalia, you may be charged with trafficking.
Cannabis is schedule II in Canada (for more than 3 kg). Canada’s cannabis control laws are spottily enforced, with the west coast (British Columbia) being well known for its high quality cannabis and low levels of enforcement. In 2002, Canada’s federal government made several findings in favor of cannabis legalization and medical use approval. Although the status of medical cannabis is still in flux (sept. 2002), the Canadian government has several times voiced its intention to support full medical use. Non-viable Cannabis seeds and Cannabis stalks (that do not include leaves, flowers, seeds or branches) are exempted.
In July 2000, an Ontario Court of Appeal ruled against the Canadian law because it did not address medical necessity and on July 31, 2001 a new regulation was enacted by the cabinet which addressed medical use. In January 2003, a lower Ontario court ruled simple possession laws banning cannabis unconstitutional, although it is unclear what the long term implications of this might be.
Law enforcement: Police will generally just take your marijuana, and give you a talking to if you’re not known to them, in larger amounts then a quarter ounce on your person you may be booked.
Our reporter also added: “I’ve never had a problem – cops are usually more concerned with bigger drug busts. Although recently there’s been a lot more hype about bud in Kelowna, most people here (that I know) either smoke it or don’t care about it. Like the rest of BC, it’s pretty open, but be aware that Kelowna is a slightly more conservative community.”
another reporter added: “it’s true that in this area the cops tend to go for the bigger busts and not the private smoker. But i suggest that any fellow stoners don’t toke up in any of the residential neighborhoods even in the back alleys, as most neighborhoods are members of the neighborhood watch and will be more than happy to phone the police if they even catch a wiff of that skunky smell. I have been caught in the Glenmore area 3 times in the last year alone. and I strongly recommend that a stoner stays out of the downtown area while high because there are quite a few cops that patrol the area on foot I’ve seen a few dogs there as well. When I am high I tend to feel like extremely paranoid while in downtown and it feels like there is a cop wherever i go. ”
Where to buy marijuana in Kelowna:
Downtown, on the streets if you find the head shops, ask some of the stoner types loitering the are, if you go to Rutland ask around at the skate park. There is also a delivery service in town, if you know who to ask.
another reporter added: “the best place for a first time Kelowna buyer looking for dealers is to hang around the downtown area or some of the slum areas. look for potential stoners and ask them. bring $5 with u cause that info tends not to come cheap. if u are really bummed out and desperate, like the general review talk to the kids at Ben Lee skate park in Rutland. but don’t trust them. in my early stoner days i was led into an ally with promises of “a golden nugget” and they tried to mug me.
Hashish oil and resin are extremely rare in this region of Canada. if ur looking to try some u can either make ur own ( im sure webehigh.com can refer u to a good site for making hash. or visit Ontario where hashish and oil and resin are almost as abundant as pot itself although it costs quite a bit more.”
Latest info says: The main bus stop downtown (Queensway) is a good place to ask around, it’s also right by one of the smoke shops, I have seen many tourists and dads in their 40’s scoring weed there, but be warned there are security guards. they usually don’t really care if you keep it on the down low though. close to the bus station is City Park in the warmer months you can usually find people blazing in the park in groups.
Kelowna marijuana prices: Prices aren’t much different than the rest of BC – 10 bucks a gram is regular. Most of the time, though, you can get it cheaper (20 bucks for an 1/8th, etc, depending on the dealer and strain). Prices can vary depending on the strain, but generally it’s just the somewhat-lower-than-usual BC prices.
Our local reporter also added: “Regular prices, $10 a gram, $25 an eighth, $45 a quarter etc.”
and another reporter added: ” the Kelowna prices are generally lower than in Vancouver. but it’s still 10 bucks for a gram. the prices tend to go down with the higher amount you buy. if you are on a tight budget and like to smoke nearly everyday i know a few anonymous local dealers who sell bunk weed at 5 grams a dollar. this stuff tastes like shit and only gets u high for 5 mins but the more u smoke the bigger the high right. i remember buying 20 grams and smoking it all in 10 mins with 2 other friends. unfortunately it only lasted for 1/2 hour after the blaze. and let me tell u the burnout is killer after smoking that shit. if ur seriously into smoking u can buy an ounce for $150, of course that is the low grade stuff the higher u go the more it costs. ”
Brands: Usually very high quality marijuana, if you look the type people may try to sell you trim or “shake” as it’s called here
More information: Kelowna is generally a decent town for smoking, most people aren’t to concerned if you smoke a joint or a bowl in an alley or behind a building as long as you don’t cause trouble and don’t hang around for too long. Police generally go after the larger dealers, and not the personal smokers. Rutland is an area to try to find marijuana if you’re out of ideas.
A lot of the weed from Vancouver is imported from the Okanagan there are lots of secret greenhouses hidden not fay off in the forest near Kelowna. these are only accessible by dirt bikes of course as not to draw too much attention from the local police. and yes its true there is a local delivery service. and trust me when i say it’s growing.
