Marijuana Laws & Legislation for Aix-en-Provence
As of 2025, France maintains strict cannabis laws, with recreational use remaining illegal and punishable by a €200 fine. The government continues its firm stance against legalization, with Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau emphasizing the link between drug consumption and gang violence. Law Enforcement
Whilst the police will not tolerating you smoking marijuana here, it is fairly safe to smoke in the street, walking around the town on a summer day you will see several groups of youths smoking hash in the streets, and are fairly safe as long as you do not buy from “Le Rasta”.
Le Rasta is the town’s main hashish dealer, sells to hundreds of customers. His police file is over an inch think. He has a network of apartments all over town where he will take you into a corridor to do the deal. However police hang out near his home and arrest his customers.
Where to buy marijuana:
Hashish comes from Marseille and is widely available. Weed is very rarely available, and when you can find it, it is normally expensive and low quality. Arab teens can be found selling hash in Le Parc Jordan, or around Parc La Torse. Also in the side streets next to the cours-mirabeau, the area between O’sullivans pub and O’shannons, specifically, ask arabs outside “Netgamers” cybercafe. Hash is called “shit” here. Carry on past the top of the cours-mirabeau to find a sheesha bar by the name of “arabesc”.
Do not try to buy hash in Jas-de-Boufan, at best you will end up buying compacted soil, at worst you will get mugged at gunpoint. Never hand over the money until you have the hashish in your hand, some of the arabs devise elaborate plans to trick you of your money.
Marseille is a 30 minute train ride from Aix-En-Provence, you can get better deals there in the banlieues, but you really need to be fluent in French, buying in Aix needs virtually no ability to speak french.

Varies depending on who you buy from, but normally you can get a block of hash that will do you 5-10 joints for 20 euros. 20 Euros is almost always the minimum buy for hash. For weed the minimum is 40 or 60.

Never believe what a dealer tells you is the quality of what they sell, it will always be exagerated.

Its probably worth noting where to buy cigarettes “under the counter”. Most places selling cigarettes shut at 7pm, however there is “La Cintra”, a 24/7 bar run by the Mafia near la rotonde, they sell cigarettes under the counter 24 hours a day. Many other bars and cafe’s in town also sells cigarettes under the counter, it is a fairly common practice.
