Legislation: it is against the law to possess marijuana in Canada. If you have baggies, scales or other selling paraphenalia, you may be charged with trafficking.
Cannabis is schedule II in Canada (for more than 3 kg). Canada’s cannabis control laws are spottily enforced, with the west coast (British Columbia) being well known for its high quality cannabis and low levels of enforcement. In 2002, Canada’s federal government made several findings in favor of cannabis legalization and medical use approval. Although the status of medical cannabis is still in flux (sep 2002), the Canadian government has several times voiced its intention to support full medical use. Non-viable Cannabis seeds and Cannabis stalks (that do not include leaves, flowers, seeds or branches) are exempted.
In July 2000, an Ontario Court of Appeal ruled against the Canadian law because it did not address medical necessity and on July 31, 2001 a new regulation was enacted by the cabinet which addressed medical use. In January 2003, a lower Ontario court ruled simple possession laws banning cannabis unconstitutional, although it is unclear what the long term implications of this might be.
Law Enforcement: Police may ticket you for possession, but will usually just throw your weed away and let you go. Generally, the police will not bother you unless they have received a complaint.
Where to buy Marijuana in Sudbury: If you dare, you can walk around downtown asking younger people, but it is very likely that you will be ripped off. Your best bet is to go to a club, bar or pool hall and ask someone who looks like a stoner. DO NOT go into the local head shops asking where to score weed; the owners hate that and will throw you out.
another reporter added: “Try to scatter around downtown Sudbury, near the theater and all that. Also, Laurentian University is your BEST bet. ”
Sudbury Marijuana Prices: Locals usually pay $20 – $30 for 1/8th ounce depending on the season. It tends to be cheapest in the early winter, and most expensive in late summer.
Many people smoke hash oil in Sudbury, and it sells for about $50 for a “fiver” (a five gram vial). Check it first to make sure that it isn’t cut, as some people add vitamin E cream to increase their profit margin.
Hash is uncommon, so expect people to charge more. $20 per gram is usually the going rate.
Brands: There’s a lot of mid-grade outdoor availiable for decent prices. Most growers are unaware of which strain they are growing, since it is often a mix. The real treats come in the spring, when the indoor crops are harvested. Look for Durban Poison, Blueberry, Sour Diesel and Big Bud.
More information: Sudbury has some of the best smoking spots in the country. Be sure to smoke a joint while watching the slag (molten mining waste) being dumped, or from the top of one of the “mountains” that divide Sudbury into its boroughs.
