Denver, CO, Colorado

Denver Marijuana Guide

Laws and Regulations

Colorado has passed Amendment 64 which allows possession of up to 1 ounce per adult 21 years or older. CO Residents can buy up to an ounce per purchase. Non-residents can buy up to a quarter ounce per purchase.

You may give to or trade marijuana with any adult, but you may not sell it to them. That means you’re allowed to trade your Sour Diesel with your friend’s Blue Dream, but you can’t take cash for marijuana.

You MAY NOT take any marijuana products out of the state.

It’s not legal to smoke in public. It’s a fineable offense. With that being said, most people and most cops generally won’t hassle you if you’re not being an asshole about it. Go find somewhere secluded if you want to smoke outside. Like the top of a mountain, for a start.

You can be charged with having an open container of marijuana in your car. It needs to be in a sealed container anywhere that is not accessible to the driver. The trunk is the best place to store your weed at all times.

Marijuana possession has been banned in the Denver Airport, and is still technically illegal in National Parks under federal law. State and local parks are still okay. Public transportation is okay also.

It is legal to ‘display’ marijuana in public spaces, meaning that you’re allowed to walk around town holding a bag of weed above your head, singing “BAG OF WEED, BAG OF WEED, EVERYTHING IS BETTER WITH A BAG OF WEED”

Where can I buy marijuana in Colorado?

Weedmaps.com is by far the best resource for finding dispensaries. Take a look at their map, click on a dispensary, and take a look at their menu and pricing. The prices are currently hovering around $350-$400 / ounce plus about 30% tax.

Craigslist is still a resource for cheaper black-market weed. Legally, the buyer is at no risk since it isn’t illegal to purchase marijuana, however buy at your own risk because these are not licensed dispensaries. Of course we all would prefer that you pay tax in the recreational dispensaries, though.

Neat shit to do

Weekly event listings in Denver (thanks to /u/rDenverPosts[7] )
Illusionz Glass Gallery is a top-of-the-line headshop that contains pipes and bongs that are described better as works of art, including this giant, fully smokeable motherfuckin pirate ship[8] selling for like $30,000. Complete with chillum cannons. On every 1st Friday of the month and on 4/20 they have a free live glass-blowing demonstration with a few kegs and a smokeout tent out back for anyone 21+. Definitely worth checking out, if nothing else just to get baked out back and see all the glass.

Smoking Clubs and Lounges, such as iBake Lounge in Denver[9] , or Speak Easy Vape Lounge in Colorado Springs[10]

Go hiking! The mountains are super close, and are absolutely beautiful all year round. Denver is just another big city, for the most part, so it would be a huge shame if you came all the way out here and didn’t enjoy the natural beauty of our state. Make sure to take all your trash (including your roaches!) with you, because we Coloradoans love our open spaces and want to keep them clean. Blazing up at the top of a mountain with a few good friends is definitely a moment you can’t put a price tag on. SO DO IT!

Red Rocks[11] is a must-see. It is widely regarded as the greatest and one of the most beautiful concert venues in the world. During the day it is a city park with lots of great hiking, beautiful scenery, interesting geology and a pretty sweet museum. Even the amphitheater is open to the public during the day, which is hella cool because you can walk around the stage that so many super famous people have played on. If you get a chance to see any concert, DO IT. I’m honored to live so close to such a legendary place. The concerts are also mostly tree-friendly, as long as you’re not doing it right in front of security.

Boulder is a nearby college town right on the front range of the Rockies. Almost anywhere in town you have a sweet view of the mountains. In fact, you can hike straight into the mountains from downtown. It is my home, and I love every minute of living here.

Skiing/Snowboarding is of course what Colorado is most famous for. Some favorite spots are: Vail, Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, Keystone and Winter Park

Other neat shit to do[12] – Scroll down to “See” and “Do”.

Neat shit to do on 4/20

Civic Center Park 4/20 Rally[13] – Ever have the urge to smoke with tens of thousands of other people in front of the state capital and a bunch of cops? Go here. It’s widely considered the largest smokeout in the world, and it’s free and open to the public. The cops will give out MIPs, so only go if you’re 21+. Hopefully we don’t get any assholes shooting people this year…

The High Times Cannabis Cup[14] – A world-famous competition to find the best marijuana, edibles, and concentrates. It’s essentially a trade-show for cannabis vendors. Event-goers last year waited in line to get free dabs and bong rips from the different booths. There’s a smokeout at 4:20 on 4/20, but is much smaller than the one in Civic Center Park. Want a local’s suggestion? Leave the Cup at around 3:30, go to Civic Center for 4:20, then go back to the Cup if you so desire. You won’t regret it. Last year’s Cup had reports of overcrowding, but this year’s event is at the Denver Mart, a much larger venue.

Food and Beer

You’re in a different place, so don’t get the same shit you could get at home. Hit up some good local restaurants and breweries, because Colorado is home to some outstanding craft beers. If whiskey is your thing, we also have a great craft whiskey market.

Lucille’s[15] – Seriously the dankest breakfast I’ve ever had in my life. Their homemade sausage is the best.
Snooze[16] – This get’s the silver medal for breakfasts. Locations in Denver and Boulder.
Vine St. Pub[17] – Good burgers and a great selection of craft beers. My favorite is the Vagabond IPA. Locations in Denver and Boulder.
Falling Rock Taphouse[18] – The bar is meh, but they’ve also got a great selection of beers and is right in the middle of downtown.
Casa Bonita[19] – The same Casa Bonita featured in the South Park episode. Shitty cafeteria food, bad acting, mediocre cliff divers, but still worth the experience.
A more detailed list of local restaurants can be found in the /r/Denver FAQ[20]

Other Tips

Altitude sickness sucks. At a mile high in Denver, you may have trouble catching your breath and a slight, persistent headache. At higher altitudes, say if you’re going into the mountains, you may feel dizzy and nauseous. Drink lots of water and if you’re really not feeling well, pick up some Diamox from the drug store.
Even if it’s warm during the day, it usually gets really cold when the sun goes down even during the summer. Always have a jacket with you if you’re planning on being out past sundown.

Not in a smoking room? Don’t know where to smoke? Ask the hotel front desk. They’ve been asked the question hundreds of times before, so no need to be embarrassed. They will tell you where the safest place to smoke is.

Buy a cheap pipe that you won’t mind throwing away, because you can’t take a used pipe out of the state. Support the local glassblowers.

Watch how much you drink and smoke. The altitude does funny things to your body and you will get drunker much quicker. The first night I moved here, I went to the bars and was hammered after just a few beers. The altitude doesn’t affect how high you get, though, but be careful because you’re smoking some of the best bud that the world has to offer.

Like anywhere else, you get what you pay for here in Colorado. If you buy weed on the cheap side, don’t be surprised if it isn’t dried and cured properly. While you’re here, spring for the top-shelf buds. You’re not obligated to buy anything if you’re not impressed with the quality.

If you’re coming for 4/20, note that the big 4/20 smokeout on the CU Boulder campus has been stamped out by CU Administration and the local police. You will be escorted off campus if you don’t have a CU student ID on 4/20.

We Coloradoans cherish our parks and open spaces. Littering really rustles our jimmies.
We’re also quite flammable, so don’t flick your cigarettes or roaches.

Fairbanks, AK, Alaska

Marijuana Laws

On November 4th, 2014 Alaska citizens voted YES on Ballot Measure 2 to legalize marijuana. This act legalizes and taxes marijuana at a wholesale rate of $50 per ounce. This will open up Alaska to recreational facilities.

Medical marijuana has been in Alaska for a while but dispenaries have never been allowed to exist.

Until recently marijuana was illegal here in Fairbanks, but this law was overturned in 2003 and now possession of up to four ounces of marijuana is legal. However if you are found with more than four ounces you can still face fines and some jail time.

another reporter added: “Alaska has has a medical marijuana law since March, 1999: “Fifty-eight percent of voters approved Ballot Measure #8 on November 3, 1998. The law took effect on March 4, 1999. It removes state-level criminal penalties on the use, possession and cultivation of marijuana by patients who possess written documentation from their physician advising that they “might benefit from the medical use of marijuana.” Patients diagnosed with the following illnesses are afforded legal protection under this act: cachexia; cancer; chronic pain; epilepsy and other disorders characterized by seizures; glaucoma; HIV or AIDS; multiple sclerosis and other disorders characterized by muscle spasticity; and nausea. Other conditions are subject to approval by the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services. Patients (or their primary caregivers) may legally possess no more than one ounce of usable marijuana, and may cultivate no more than six marijuana plants, of which no more than three may be mature. The law establishes a confidential state-run patient registry that issues identification cards to qualifying patients. To date, approximately 200 cards have been issued to registered patients.”

Law enforcement
Police normally won’t bother you unless you are smoking out in the open, and even then they don’t pay too much attention to you.

Where to buy marijuana in Fairbanks, Alaska

Pretty much anywhere inside of the town, downtown is an especially active place for finding dealers and also by parks. Anyone who looks like a dealer probably is, so just go up to them and tell them that you are going through a dry spell and they can probably help you out.

another reporter added: “You can ask nearly anyone down town, off of South Cushman St., in North Pole, off College Rd., and, to a slightly lesser extent, at the University. Its good to know someone though, as we can have an occasional dry spell.”

Marijuana prices
Depends on who you buy it from, most prices stay the same. About $20 for an gram, $45-$55 for an eighth, $90 to $100 for a quad, and $250-$300 for an ounce.

another reporter added: “Normally always $50/8th, if your lucky $40-45. Sometimes you can get a gram for $20. It is pretty standard, but not exactly the cheapest. ”

Under new laws in 2014 legal shops will sell at a taxed rate of $50/oz.

Marijuana brands
Not too sure of the names, however most any weed you get will be excellent. I have not found any weed that I did not like. Most weed here is grown indoors so the growers can carefully control the plants and modify them to be more potent. If you get bad stuff it was probably just a fluke and when you buy again you will get quality stuff.

another reporter added: “There seems to be a wide range here. Not that I always expect the dealer to know what they are talking about, I have been told that I was getting ‘God Bud’, ‘Iceburg’ and I have been lucky enough to get the near legendary Matanuska Thunderfuck, which most people around here just refer to as Valley Bud.

More information
A cool place to smoke, you can go out to the woods and smoke and no one will ever find you. Lots of places to drive when your high, and good scenery. All in all a good place to come and smoke.

There is no such thing as kind bud here because its all good. Even the not great stuff was good. I wouldn’t drive while stoned though because, while pot is decriminalized here, cops hit very hard for driving while intoxicated because there are a lot of drunk drivers here. Fairbanks cops arn’t too bad, but the North Pole cops have a reputation for being dicks.

Juneau, AK, Alaska

Marijuana Laws

On November 4th, 2014 Alaska citizens voted YES on Ballot Measure 2 to legalize marijuana. This act legalizes and taxes marijuana at a wholesale rate of $50 per ounce. This will open up Alaska to recreational facilities.

Medical marijuana has been in Alaska for a while but dispenaries have never been allowed to exist.

In Alaska it was recently ruled that up to one ounce of pot is legal for adults, striking down a recent decriminalization bill. If you go over an ounce there are still penalties—90 days jail/$1000 and it’s a misdemeanor.

Law enforcement
Law enforcement is recently undergoing shortages, and there are plenty of places to smoke openly (lots of park and wooded areas). However Alaska has the worst drunk driving rates in the nation so be very wary if you are to smoke on the road even though you shouldn’t be anyways. The cops aren’t dumb in Juneau but their patrol routes are very limited, spanning the whole city you are unnlikely to see any police, and where i live i have never seen a cop that far out.

Leave us a comment below with some tips!

Marijuana prices: Prices and weights very raraly fluxtuate. If you run into somebody charging more than this (for under an ounce) flip them the bird and walk off, they are a douschebag. Gram: 20$, Eights (3.5g’s): 60$, quarters(7g’s): 120$, and ounces(28.3g’s): 420-550.

Summer prices are usually higher, most people will charge you $25 a G for anything under a half ounce.

Brands: Matinuska thunderfuck is a very good strain, but in very short supply. Most is homegrown, BC, Washington or Oregon Bud. All usually very good, but try to stay away from buying bud from anyone who lives downtown (bottomfeeder shit).

Portland, OR, Oregon

Marijuana Laws in Portland Oregon

On November 4th, 2014 the citizens of Oregon voted yes on Measure 91 which will legalize recreational marijuana in Oregon. Legal marijuana stores will not be operational in Oregon until anywhere from July 2015 to 2016. The OLCC (Oregon Liquor Control Commission) must put laws in place to accept applicants for recreational sales of marijuana by January 1, 2016.

Until then, however, marijuana is legal in Oregon and adults may grow up to 4 plants in their homes, you pay also possess 8oz in your home or 1oz in public.

Oregon has had medical marijuana for over a decade and has many operational facilities for medical patients. See the law in detail on NORML. Law enforcement is fairly understanding of your rights these days.

Law Enforcement in Portland
Portland police are very forgiving toward marijuana smokers, and do not look for them. In fact, there are some areas in Portland (see “spots”) where it is very common to smoke pot in public.

Small time dealers and recreational smokers with small amounts are usually not harassed, although recently police have stepped up their efforts to chase away street dealers due to complaints from some uptight visitors to the downtown area. If you are unlucky enough to be stopped by the police for marijuana, they will probably just take it away from you.
another reporter added: “well cops are faggots here, they don’t like pot, they think its evil or sum like they wont let shit slide, i speak from experience.”

Where to buy marijuana in Portland, Oregon

Finding herb in Portland is as easy as going to a local head shop and talking to a few patrons. We are all friendly smokers who understand another’s love for herb. Also, check out Mt. Hood given the chance. Some lift operators sling bags, and plenty of snowboarders smoke herb. There’s nothing like sitting at the top of the ski run and smelling that sweet skunk wafting through the trees.

Also check out an area known as “The Park Blocks” along Park St. across from the Portland Art Museum – it is a good place to find street dealers. Look for young people dressed in “hip-hop” or “punk” style with back packs, cargo pants, etc… hanging out in small groups.

Waterfront park is another place you can look for buds, but be careful — some are out to rip you off, usually in terms of quantity, not quality. You will usually get a better deal from people who know you. A local reporter said that: “I’ve been buying bud on and off from the Waterfront area for the last 5 years. Cops come and go, but dealers usually work with spotters who are on the look-out. Look at the product before you buy (dealers tend to offer at least a peek at the bag).”

Downtown Near the Nordstroms

another reporter added: “Along the north part of the waterfront downtown, or in the south park blocks from about Salmon to Market. Look for the people who aren’t eating lunch, aren’t sitting alone or conversing, aren’t far from the main traffic lanes. Somebody usually has a bicycle. On busy days, they may have some things for sale, like jewelry or even pipes. But mostly they’re standing around talking about nothing, waiting for you to join their conversation. Start with the person who’s looks most like you or your best friend. Or, hang out nearby for a while, and see whether somebody asks you where the bathrooms are, or some other lame question.”

and also: “water front .. also know as skidmore fountain you should see people openly smoking bud. Use your head if a guy looks like a douschebag he probably is and will probably rip you off. ”

Marijuana prices in Portland, Oregon

You can get a couple of grams for $20 or so, $40 or less per eighth ounce.

another reporter added: “$ 140.00 for a VERY NICE HALF,Actually 135 for us only because our friendly guide had been bringing so much business for his supplier. He didn’t take any ,we got to see what we were getting before buying and our guy got a kick down from his guy so it worked out for all.”

and also: “Officially, $40 for “1/8 ounce” (around 3.5 g). But you’ll probably get ripped off buying on the street, so negotiate carefully and expect to come home with half of the weight sometimes. But once you can find a regular’s phone number, you can arrange to meet up somewhere quiet and get the full weight.”

Brands

: All types of high quality green bud are available here. As mentioned earlier, you may get ripped off in terms of quantity, but the quality is usually excellent.

For the southern smokers who wanna know what we got up here… Most the bud is KB quality as you would call it in the South, but every once in a while you can get sum dro too.

From our local reporter: “Bud obtained at the Waterfront is usually high-grade. I’ve been sold “Northern Lights” and “Blueberry”, but they looked/smelled/tasted the same as everything else. Find a reliable dealer in Portland and you will be hooked up with very good brand name marijuana that is excellent compared to what you get on the street. “

The cops around here have more important things to do than look for stoners and hippies on a friday night… trust me. As long as you stay a respectable distance from johhny law he’ll give you a wide birth. There were a total of 6 marijuana related arrests in 2006 in Eugene.

another reporter added: “* With no prior felony convictions, if convicted of possession of less than one pound of marijuana a judge must impose a sentence of probation with mandatory drug treatment. If no treatment center exists within the jurisdiction, the judge may waive the treatment requirement. They judge can also waive all fines.

“Eugene police are not really pot-friendly although it depends on what part of town and what time of day or night. Certainly during the Saturday market is the lowest risk seeing how lots of people openly smoke on the square. ”

Where to buy marijuana in Eugene, Oragon

You can find it at open air events if you know what kind of people to look for. But don’t quote me on the quality, it can go from stuff that barely resembles weed, up to some of the most mind blowing sensemilla there is.”

“You can always find dank on the steps of the courthouse during Saturday market. Walk up, look around, and within 30 seconds someone will walk by saying “nugs, shrooms” under their breath, and you’ll turn around and someone else will look right at you and ask if you’re looking to buy weed. I have purchased this way (and I’ve never lived in this town) over the last TEN YEARS and have always been satisfied. I could only wish I knew of more locations like this. ”

another report we have is: “You really better know someone in this town. You can buy it on the street from strangers, but it will be extemely low quality herb and weight will be light.”

another reporter added: “Most of the time there is very little focus(if any) on marijuana smokers/dealers beings how so many people here smoke. Saturdays you can find many people openly smoking on the steps of the county court house, right next to the police station and sheriffs office. Saturdays between Spring and fall. In other parts of the town there are very little officers who will stop you for having/smoking as long as you stick to the older neighborhoods and by the river. Look under “more information” for more good smoking spots and other usful tips.”

Marijuana prices:

“Like this site says it vaires from 35-45 an eighth here, but if you know someone and buy in bulk should be economical.”

and also:” $25-$40 for an 1/8 oz. depending on what is around at the time, although you can not find bad pot here, there are “flavers” that are in high demand. You will not find compressed nuggs here or “mexi nuggs”. The only pot you will find here is the kind that you can toss at a window from across the room and it will stick. I have seen every color of hair to every color of “keef” crystals under the rainbow.”

Marijuana brands: “If you know anything about the way weed is grown and prepared to be consumed… you’d know that with weed it’s 98 % nurture and 2 percent nature. so don’t pay any attention to the name or brand, just worry about the way it looks smells, feels and smokes. You’ll find some of the choicest herb here.”

Law enforcement
The cops around here are really hit or miss. Minors here have it a bit rougher. MIPs (Minor In Possession) is possible. These usually have some sort of community service and drug class attached as the punishment, plus a fine.

Where to buy marijuana in Bend

Street dealers are hard to come by in Bend, most deals are carried out privately. If you go downtown, you can most likely find a kid who can hook you up with some good bud. Look for the people in the plaza behind Bellataza coffee and The Downtowner, usually smoking and drinking. The ones in the baggier clothes will tend to have really good bud, the street punk kids might have some bud for sale, but they mostly sling acid and other chemicals. Further into downtown, look for the “Indie” kids, around the top of Drake Park in the summer, or around Bellataza. They’ll either have some really good bud, or know of someone who does. These kids can usually hook you up with Acid, Mushrooms, Pure MDMA (Molly), and other “softer” drugs, But the most reliable method of getting bud in Bend is through making private contacts. Most people in bend will know someone who sells bud, and the people here are really chill, and super friendly. A lot of “Friend’s Only” dealers, but the plus side is, people here will weigh your sacks out fat once you become close enough. The street kids are liable to rip you off, but will not try to sell you fake weed. The other kids won’t rip you off, and are really nice. Private dealers will usually weigh your sack out in front of you, and offer a “sample”. It’s recommended that you smoke your dealer a bowl after a deal.

Marijuana Prices and Types

As cheap as anywhere. Some name Brands, but mostly Oregon Homegrown, or Hydro from Portland. Trainwreck usually available, as well as some blueberry strains, but for the most part, Central Oregon will only have Oregon Bud. Good bud is easy to come by here, but it’s usually somewhat generic. What we lack in variety, we make up for in quaqlity. It’s hard to get bad weed here, and people will at least have some chronic, if not better. Good weed is cheaper here than in other places, with 2 grams of Trainwreck going for $5-$15. It’s hard to run across anything that won’t get you high. Most people are nice and honest here, a lot of small town hippies and snowboarders. It’s hard to get ripped off.

Public smoking is relatively safe, but you have to be somewhat cautious of your surroundings. I’m able to smoke on my front porch, but I live in a more relaxed, young neighborhood. Smoking downtown is very easy, many places to drive to, or walk to on the westside. Drake Park has a waterfront trail that’s very popular for smoking. Further into Drake Park, the are hills that are shaded and ideal for summer smoking. If smoking a joint while walking in other parts of the city, you’ll usually be safe, as cops don’t patrol the sidewalks in other neighborhoods as much. Joint smoking downtown would be safest in the park, as bike cops patrol the trails constantly. Smoking in private residences is very common. Apartments typically are safe, as no one I know in an apartment has ever had a complaint or had the cops been called on them for smell. I tend to either smoke in cars somewhere along the street before I reach my destination, or at my own home.
