another reporter added: “Since late December, 2000, Hawaii has had a medical marijuana law: ” Governor Ben Cayetano signed Senate Bill 862 into law on June 14, 2000. The law took effect on December 28, 2000. The law removes state-level criminal penalties on the use, possession and cultivation of marijuana by patients who possess a signed statement from their physician affirming that he or she suffers from a debilitating condition and that the “potential benefits of medical use of marijuana would likely outweigh the health risks.” Patients diagnosed with the following illnesses are afforded legal protection under this act: cachexia; cancer; chronic pain; Crohn’s disease; epilepsy and other disorders characterized by seizures; glaucoma; HIV or AIDS; multiple sclerosis and other disorders characterized by muscle spasticity; and nausea. Other conditions are subject to approval by the Hawaii Department of Health. Patients (or their primary caregivers) may legally possess no more than one ounce of usable marijuana, and may cultivate no more than seven marijuana plants, of which no more than three may be mature. The law establishes a mandatory, confidential state-run patient registry that issues identification cards to qualifying patients. To date, approximately 2,600 cards have been issued to registered patients.

AMENDMENTS: No, although Hawaii has a separate statute allowing patients arrested on marijuana charges to present a “choice of evils” defense arguing that their use of marijuana is medically necessary.

Where to buy marijuana in Maui

Iao Valley State park. Most days of the week there are usually beach bums and hippies hanging out in the parking lot, blasting reggae. Just approach them, tell them how much you’re willing to pay, and walk out with some very nice bud. Nice guys to deal with, very willing to sell to tourists.

Another reporter added: “paia a little town where all the hippies live on the north side of island on the way to hana. Lots of smoke shops and jamicans walking around with afro colored sweater caps?? use low voice in the smoke shop when asking and they will point you to somone who knows someone else. Kind of paranoid transaction but stay calm. Maybe it was too early in the day (noon)? ”

January 2016 Tip: “Despite what’s posted here, I had no problem scoring good bud in Lahaina (Dec. 2015). I avoided the sketchy looking dudes under the banyan tree and instead walked up and down Front St for about 20 min until I passed a dude who said “Weed?” Asked him for an 8th, he said “let’s walk” and as we were walking he pulled out a little brown jar with maybe 8 marble sized nugs in it. He encouraged me to open the jar and smell it so I knew we were on the right track. He admitted it was short of an 8th, asked for $50, which I gladly paid — not in a mood to haggle on vacation.

He called it blueberry something or other. Sticky buds, smelled awesome, definitely got me high. If I had to guess, I’d say it was recently harvested local outdoor stuff. But who really knows?”

Some Older Advice From 2013: “I keep reading that people got weed at the Banyon tree in Maui (La Haina). I got ripped off there about two years ago. The guy selling wouldn’ let me take the bud out of the bag to check it out. It ended up being some fake stuff.
Tonight- two years later…same thing. There are local guys just preying on tourists. DO NOT buy in LaHaina. I have got good weed in lots of other places in Maui, but both times I bought in La Haina I was ripped off.”

Where to buy marijuana: Someone is bound to be slinging to tourists in the shade of the giant banyan tree in Courthouse Square. If you put off the right vibe, you don’t even have to ask. 10 minutes or so of waiting around is enough time to be offered some bud or spot somebody offload a bag. Either way, you’re pretty much hooked up.

Marijuana prices: Maui Wowie goes for as much as $50 for a fat gram (1.1-1.2). It’s almost dank enough to be worth the price … Oh well, you’re in Hawaii right? No better way to enjoy the sun, sand, waves, and breeze.

another reporter added: “Cops WILL bust you for even the smallest amount of bud! Don’t smoke in Waikiki, head towards diamond head makai side to blaze.”

Where to buy marijuana in Honolulu: Tourists will always get ripped off, no matter what. Hookers DO NOT sell bud in Waikiki (they make more than enough money already). Locals are the ones who are out to rip you. Your best bet might be some local haoles (for those who don’t know, white people) like me who have lived here for some time. Cruise by local shops on Kuhio Ave and ask around, don’t be too blatant. NEVER ask for bud in the smoke shops (like Smokeys) cause that will only get you in deep trouble (and most likely your ass kicked)

another report we have is: “you gotta know someone cuz the locals are such biggots. they have lots of weed growing in the mountains north of waikiki. great weed that’s grown for miles in the mountain valley. i couldn’t believe it when i went hiking, it was like i was moses and i came across the promised land, however its untouchable because there are all sorts of people who patrol the area to make sure their crop isn’t stolen.”

Marijuana prices in Honolulu: Cheapest I’ve paid for an ounce is $340. Its some of the best bud I’ve seen in my life and nothing compares to it on the east coast. I’d pay $500 for a zip of haze in beantown which was good, but nothing compares to the buds grown in hawaii. Eighths will run you $50 for ok bud, $60-70 for really good bud, and $100+ for purple, kush etc.

Strains: Looking to smoke some Maui Wowi? Keep looking…. its impossible to find anywhere bud Maui and if someone says it is “Maui Wowi” it most likely isnt. The buds we pick up are hairy and dark, a lot of purple in it but not considered “purple haze” Nobody uses the terms “heddies, headies, heddys” here so don’t be asking for that. Most people don’t even know what kind of bud it is but you can tell if its overgrown, indoor/outdoor etc. You can also tell if it was shipped depending on how compressed the buds are. Buds grown in hawaii will be dank and fluffy. You can’t find KB (kind bud) in Hawaii because that shits garbage compares to what we smoke. Merch (commercial) is nowhere to be found either.

More information: I love living in Hawaii because we smoke the best buds around the world. Some other interesting things I’ve heard if bud being shipped from Oregon and Cali and that stuff is really good. Also, you might buy bud off locals that looks like the most crip shit ever, but its the fake ass shit you buy online (which is actually produced on Oahu), but when you smoke it it tastes like shit and don’t get you high, POOP! Just keep blazin da paka braddah gonna make u lolo! -Kawika
